Samurai's at War

Samurai wore strong leather woven together and padded armor. They also had a protective helmet that they wore with there armor. There armor was light but was tough leather able to resist blows from a sword. They had two swords. One was a short one, the other was a longer one. The long sword was longer than 24 inches, while the short sword went from 12-24 inches. Both swords were iron combined with carbon. They were used for not only fighting but beheading enemies they defeated. Samurai were in this way privelaged because normal citizens couldn't even carry a weopon. They sometimes fought on horseback but changed and then started fighting on the ground. They were skilled fighting on ground with there swords. If they lost a battle or ran away, they were susposed to committ ritual suicide instead of dieing a dishonorable death. They were loyal to there daimyo, and were in complete control of the Shogun. They usually fought in wars to get more land for there daimyo, and most of the time in return they gained more respect and land. When they got land, part of the bushido was to not worry about wealth or living a rich life.
